So that easily takes the cake for the longest title on our blog so far, but bear with us! Just a few days ago, Hockey Girl and I headed about 45 minutes south of where we live to go to a pretty big card show put on by Cardboard Promotions. We spent about an hour and a half walking the tables which unfortunately were very tight together. This was probably the one downer of the whole show. But I was very pleased to have had a really enjoyable day with my best friend and pick up some great cards. I haven’t been this excited about picking up a few cards for myself in a long time and all in all I spent $5 on myself. I bought 10 cards from a box of 50 cent cards (I did spent about $30 helping my brother complete his 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen set). I had a blast looking through the cards. I hope the hobby takes a turn back to products with no (you read that right, 0) autos or game used cards. Just great looking base, parallels, inserts, and rookies. I love insert cards. Anyways, here is what I picked up for my $5:
As a Bruins fan, I know I’m not supposed to like PK Subban, but I can’t help it. He’s a fun, athletic defenseman to watch. I also love seeing young stars of the NHL in their Junior uniforms.
I like goalies almost as much as I like defenseman, and I think Steve Mason is still going to become an All Star caliber goalie. But hey, maybe I’m wrong.
Lots of rumors of him maybe becoming a Bruin so when I saw this card I figured why not? I really love the ICE base design as well.
Speaking of great goalies…is he really going to make a NHL comeback?
One of the most underrated players of all time and I love (apparently I love a lot of things in this post) players in their country uniforms.
I don’t know what it is about these cards, but they’re easily one of my favorite base sets of all time, and of an all time Bruin great (player and VP) to boot.
Two awesome cards of the Bourque-a-nator (yeah, I just gave him that nickname). One from the 90′s and one from the 80′s. I really like the designs of both these cards too.
I saw this in the box and I knew I had to pick it up, although not technically his RC. The rejuvenated Brodeur has been fun to watch guide his Devils to the Stanley Cup Finals.
My all-time favorite player as a kid and I love die-cut cards. This one was a no brainer for me.
Well that’s my haul from the show. I’m in love with 50 cent and $1 boxes. I could spend all day and lots of money going through them. I’ll let Hockey Girl show you what she got!
Hockey Boy and I went to our first card show of the year over Memorial Day weekend! It was a fairly big show and it was very crowded, which I thought was pretty cool! It is nice to see that the hobby is doing so well in our area and that so many people would come out for the show! I was also pleasantly surprised that there was a decent amount of hockey cards there as well. I was able to score some great cards! Whenever I go to a card show I always try to find Tim Thomas base cards that I don’t have, and I did pretty good this time. I got 10 base cards and I think they are really nice. When I got home I realized that I actually already had 3 of the cards that I bought (I left them out of the picture below), but they are cool ones and I can never have too many so I was happy.
I also got two inserts, including one that I have been wanting for a while; the Tim Thomas Score “Net Cam” card. I think it is such a cool idea for a goalie insert set and so I am thrilled to finally own the Tim Thomas one!
I also got a Luxury Suite Tim Thomas jersey card which looks really nice. When I went through all my cards a little while ago I realized I actually didn’t have a lot of simple jersey cards so I was super excited to get such a nice looking card for a good price to balance out my collection a little. So I left the show with cards in my hand, feeling very satisfied with my purchases and already looking forward to the next show!
Thanks for checking out our show & tell!
Much love,
Hockey Boy & Hockey Girl
